Pitch Report Condition / Climate Report:-

Match details:
Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab
20th May 2018
Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune
Venue:
The stadium at Pune has been a bit on the slow side but has also allowed for some good batting. Bowlers don’t get much assistance on the pitch and scores above 180 can be expected at the venue.
Preview:
Chennai have the top two spot in the playoffs, more or less, locked in and will take this game as match practice to enter the playoffs on a winning note. Their last game against Delhi exposed their death bowling issues again although Ngidi still had an over to go. They could not bat well after Rayudu was dismissed while Dhoni failed to finish the innings off. Their bowling does not look threatening in the middle overs. They would want to iron out their first choice XI and ensure they improve their NRR to nail down the playoff spot.
Meanwhile, Punjab have had a horrible second half of the tournament, having lost 4 straight matches. Their batting is over-dependent on their openers and even Gayle seems to be misfiring. Andrew Tye has had a dream of a tournament and is almost guaranteed to win Purple Cap even if they don’t make the playoffs. Rahul has been carrying them and will need someone from the middle order to step up if they want to make the playoffs.
The good news for KXIP is that they will be playing the last league match and will know what needs to be done in order to qualify. The bad news, however, is that their NRR is -0.49 and they will have to pull off a miracle to even get above zero and qualify for the playoffs ahead of the other teams.
This will be the last league game and should be an exciting one!
Head to Head:
Total matches played: 19
Chennai Super Kings: 11 wins (58%)
Kings XI Punjab: 8 wins (42%)
Form:
Chennai Super Kings: LWLWL
Kings XI Punjab: W L L L L
Last Match’s Playing XI and probable changes
Chennai Super Kings
Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Sam Billings, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Lungi Ngidi
Probable changes – Imran Tahir/David Willey and Faf du Plessis in for Dwayne Bravo and Sam Billings. Dhoni will be looking to experiment in the final match. If he wants to shore up his batting, Faf could come in while if he is in favour of strengthening his bowling, Tahir or Willey could replace the out-of-form Bravo.
Kings XI Punjab
Lokesh Rahul (wk), Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch, Yuvraj Singh, Manoj Tiwary, Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin (c), Andrew Tye, Mohit Sharma, Ankit Rajpoot
Probable changes – David Miller/Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Karun Nair in for Marcus Stoinis and Yuvraj Singh. Mujeeb will definitely be brought back if he’s fit. If not, a specialist batsman like Miller could be brought in for Stoinis while Yuvraj is most likely to make way for Nair.
Top point scorers:
Chennai Super Kings
Ambati Rayudu (405.5 points) – Opening the innings has led to this being the best season for Rayudu. He has been the lead scorer for CSK with 585 runs at an average of 49 with a strike rate of 154. He comes into the match on the back of another fifty albeit in a losing cause.
Shane Watson (368.5 points) – Watson has not been bowling much in the latter half of the tournament. In the match against Delhi, he was unable to time the ball and struggled to score. He has an aggregate of 438 runs with 6 wickets to show for his medium pace while also scoring a century earlier in the tournament.
Kings XI Punjab
KL Rahul (492.5 points) – The wicketkeeper-batsman continued his stronghold on the Orange Cap. He has scored 652 runs and has been carrying Punjab’s batting. Rahul will have to fire once again to ensure Punjab improve their NRR and qualify for the final.
Andrew Tye (316 points) – The Purple Cap holder, with 24 wickets, has been out of the world for Punjab and will want to finish the tournament strong. He is their strike bowler and will be called upon to help them make a final attempt at qualifying for the playoffs.
Doubtful Pick:
Mayank Agarwal (KXIP) @ 8.5 credits
The middle-order batsman has been unable to make an impact after the first few matches and finds himself on the bench. Expect him to miss this match as well.
He was picked by 7.47% of teams for the previous match.
Value Pick:
Ravindra Jadeja (CSK) @ 8.5 credits
The all-rounder has been batting and bowling well in the past few games and looks best to finish games for Chennai. CSK’s batting is reliant on Rayudu, Watson and Dhoni, and Jadeja provides them with a dependable option lower down the order.
He was a part of over 1/3rd of the teams for CSK’s loss to DD.

Suggested team balance:
The pitch at Pune has been good for batting and both sides offer excellent power hitters and stroke players. Chahar and Rajpoot are going to help you stick to the budget while Rayudu, Watson, Rahul, and Tye are must-picks.
